Your Dream Wedding Ceremony in Scotland

I’m Donna Lynch, a celebrant based in Glasgow. I create non-religious wedding ceremonies across Scotland for couples who want something personal, meaningful, and full of heart. Whether you’re getting married close to home or travelling from abroad to tie the knot in Scotland, I’m here to help you shape a ceremony that reflects your story – your values, your relationship, your way of celebrating. My goal is to help you achieve your dream wedding ceremony in Scotland.
Most of the couples I work with want a ceremony that feels sincere and warm. They don’t want a stuffy script or something that feels like everyone else’s wedding. They want a moment in the day when time slows down. Where they can look at each other, feel it all, and say the things that really matter. That’s what I do. And I love it.
What is a Celebrant-Led Wedding?
A celebrant-led wedding is all about choice. It’s about having a ceremony that isn’t limited by a template or tied to a specific belief system. If you don’t want a religious service, but you still want something that’s meaningful and heartfelt – this is a perfect fit.
In Scotland, celebrants like me can legally marry you. That means your ceremony can be held pretty much anywhere – no need for a licensed venue or a registrar. It could be a castle, a lochside, a cosy little venue tucked into the hills, or even your own back garden.
Every word of your ceremony is written for you. We talk about what matters to you both – your story, your hopes for the future, the little things that make your relationship unique – and I bring it all together in a way that feels relaxed, romantic and genuinely you.
There’s space to include readings, rituals or traditions if you’d like them. You can write your own vows, or I can help you shape them. You can involve friends and family, or keep it just the two of you. Nothing is set in stone. It’s your day, your way.
Why Choose a Local Celebrant For Your Scottish Wedding?
There’s something really valuable about having someone local on your team – someone who knows the area, understands the quirks of Scottish weddings, and can be there in person from the very beginning.
Being based in Glasgow means I’m never far from most places couples choose to marry – and if you’re coming from elsewhere, I can help guide you through the parts that might feel a bit unfamiliar, from legal paperwork to Scottish traditions.
But more than that, I’m nearby for the lead-up, not just the day itself. We can meet in person, talk through everything, visit your venue if needed. I’m a familiar face when you arrive, not just someone who shows up, speaks, and disappears.
On the day, I’m more than just the person holding the ceremony. I’m usually there early, chatting to your photographer, checking the space, and making sure you both feel calm and ready. It’s all part of helping the ceremony run smoothly – and helping you actually enjoy it.
Where Can You Get Married in Scotland?
One of the most magical things about marrying in Scotland is how flexible it is. You’re not restricted to licensed venues, and that opens up a whole world of beautiful, atmospheric places to say “I do.”
Let’s be honest – Scotland is a bit of a show-off when it comes to scenery. You’ve got everything from dramatic highland peaks to peaceful lochs, romantic old castles, and rolling countryside. And that’s before you even think about the cities, which offer their own charm, history and stunning venues!
Castles are perfect if you want that sense of timelessness. Think big fireplaces, candlelight, echoes of history in the stone walls. Whether you go grand or intimate, there’s something incredibly special about marrying in a place that’s held stories for centuries.
Of course Scotland isn’t short on Castles to get married in, you can go grand and opt for Scotlands most famous Castle, Edinburgh Castle or you could go for one of our other equally stunning but perhaps slightly less famous castles like Culzean Castle, Dundas Castle or Eilean Donan Castle.
Lochsides are pure romance. Quiet water, open skies, and the kind of soft light that makes everything feel like a painting. Loch Lomond is a favourite for a reason, but there are so many hidden gems where you can have the ceremony outdoors (with a backup plan, of course – it’s still Scotland).
Of course you could always choose Loch Ness and Nessie might even make an appearance at your wedding!
Manor houses and estate venues offer comfort, elegance, and space to gather. You’ll often find wild gardens, open fires, and rooms full of character. These places suit couples who want to settle in for the whole weekend and make it a real celebration.
Venues like Cameron House in Loch Lomond or Inglewood House and Spa in Alloa offer stunning venues and grounds to get married in
Glasgow and Edinburgh are perfect for those looking to get married in the city, as they also have amazing venues, from converted warehouses to rooftop spaces. A city wedding doesn’t have to mean formal – there’s loads of choice for couples who want something modern, intimate, or a little bit offbeat.
In Glasgow, you could choose the stunning Kelvingrove Art gallery, the Burrell Collection, or even the world-famous Barras!
In Edinburgh, you could get married at dynamic earth, the Edinburgh Corn Exchange or even the Mansion House at Edinburgh Zoo!
Woodland weddings are perfect if you’re drawn to nature – tall trees, birdsong, and the quiet magic of being surrounded by the outdoors. Autumn ceremonies here are especially stunning.
You could chose the beautiful mar Lodge estate, Cardney Steading or the idyllic Hermitage
You can get married almost anywhere – but wherever you choose, I’ll work with you to make sure the ceremony fits the space and the mood, so it all flows just right.

Planning a Wedding in Scotland – A Few Helpful Things to Know
Whether you’re local or planning from another part of the world, having the right people around you makes everything feel easier. I’ve worked with some brilliant Scottish suppliers – photographers, florists, musicians – and I’m always happy to share recommendations based on your style and budget.
The weather? Yes, it’s changeable. You could get all four seasons in a single afternoon. But honestly, it adds something to the day – a bit of drama, a moment of laughter, a shift in light that makes your photos even more beautiful. Just remember to bring an umbrella!
The key is to plan with flexibility. If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, have a warm and dry backup space nearby. It doesn’t need to be fancy – just somewhere you can gather and still feel the emotion of the moment.
Season-wise, summer is busiest, but spring and autumn have their own charm. Early autumn, in particular, is golden and soft and often still quite mild. And winter weddings? Cosy, candlelit and full of atmosphere.
You don’t need to do everything the traditional way. You don’t need to have 100 guests or follow a set format. You can plan a wedding that feels like you – and I’ll be there to make sure the ceremony holds the heart of it.
